Why More Men Are Prone To Diabetes Than Women

Researchers analyzed data from almost 52,000 men and more than 43,000 women with diabetes. They found that men develop diabetes at a lower body mass index (BMI) than women; this means that they develop the disease with less weight gain. Researchers believe the result may explain why men are more prone to develop the disease than women. In the study the men developed diabetes at a mean BMI of 31.83 while the women did at a mean BMI of 33.69. A diagnosis of obesity is made when a BMI is over 30. Obesity is a risk factor for diabetes and the major non-communicable diseases, it is a global health concern for both men and women.
