Second hand-smoke is an air pollutant , it degrades the quality of air making the persons exposed to it at risk for certain health problems.
Second hand-smoke is also a risk factor for non-communicable diseases, the ones caused by smoking tobacco.
Recently a research study found that second-hand smoke can cause memory impairment.
For the study researchers used participants who were exposed to second-hand smoke for at least 25 hours per week. They either lived with a smoker or fraternized regularly with smokers.
The participants were required to respond to certain controlled circumstances. Their responses were then compared to:
- Smokers who had not been exposed to second hand-smoke
- Non smokers
