Dry Eye Syndrome-A Computer Related Condition

Opthalmologists have discovered that the growing dependence on computer technology may have brought a certain health risk to computer users.

Those who use the computer for long periods or work with computers may develop dry eye syndrome from blinking too infrequently.  Concentrating for a long time without blinking can result in loss of water with eye irritation. This condition is called computer related eye irritation.

Researchers believe that stress is a factor; they believe and that a lot of dry eye is a stress response that feeds on itself.

Those at risks are home-based businesses, Internet workers, Internet marketers, webmasters  and web designers. Anyone who spends a lot of time on the computer is at risk.  Symptoms of computer related eye irritation are:
  • Burning,
  • Itching and
  • Blurring
  • Eye fatigue
  • Sensitivity
Self-Care Tips:
-Close eyes for a minute or two at frequent intervals while working with the computer.
-Take a break from staring at the screen to look briefly at other objects in the room.
-Replenish the tears film with artificial tears or mist.
